Critical Components In Extra Virgin Olive Oil Help With Cancer Cells

A new study found that an ingredient in Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), can actually kill cancer cells.
Paul Breslin (Rutgers University), David Foster (Hunter College), and Onica LeGendre(Hunter College), discovered that oleocanthal triggers a cell break that releases enzymes, causing cell death. The cancer cells then die from their own enzymes.

Oleocanthal refers to a chemical in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, (EVOO). It means 'aloe vera Aldehyde". Oleocanthal comes from the olive after it has been crushed to produce the pulp that will be used for oil pressing.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO), which contains a variety substances, has a 6-carbon ring arrangement. These compounds are called phenolics. These compounds are powerful antioxidants and prevent oxygen pore radicals from forming when they are combined. They also have anti-inflammatory properties. Oleocanthal has been shown to interfere with procedures related to:

There are many inflammations.

Alzheimer's disease.

The formation and progression of cancer.

Researchers found that oleocanthal causes cancer cells to rapidly die. It does this in half an hour, rather than the 16 to 24 hours needed for programmed cell deaths, also known as apoptosis. Scientists knew that oleocanthal could destroy cancer cells. However, this was the first study to investigate how this happens.

A variety of studies have proven that oleocanthal may interfere with development and cancer processes. Live animals have also shown that oleocanthal can cause tumors in mice. We don't know if these are separate effects of oleocanthal cancer, or if there may be an upstream event that causes them.

This may be an upstream process that is not yet fully understood. It appears that the cell is opening its lysosome by using oleocanthal and then releasing the poisonous enzymes that cause the cell to die. This is called Lysosomal Membrane Permeabilization (LMP).

David Foster, Onica LeGendre and Onica LeGendre examined the breast, pancreatic and prostate cells. They found that LMP can kill these cells, but not three types of healthy cells.

This research proved the truth that Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a healthy and beneficial oil.
